Profit calculator

Estimate your return on a lot before you buy. These figures are planning tools, not guarantees.

The formula

Profit = expected resale revenue, minus the lot price, minus inbound freight, minus selling fees, minus labor and outbound shipping if you track them.

Illustrative example

Lot price $2,000. Expected resale after grading $4,800. Inbound freight $350. Marketplace fees at 15 percent: $720. Net before labor: $4,800 - $2,000 - $350 - $720 = $1,730. Your numbers will differ.

Step by step

  1. Start with the lot price, or a confirmed quote.
  2. If a manifest exists, review the highest-value lines and check realistic resale prices on the channels you actually use.
  3. Apply a recovery rate that matches the condition: higher for Master Case and New Overstock, moderate for Shelf Pulls, lower for Customer Returns, parts value only for Salvage.
  4. Subtract inbound freight to your door.
  5. Subtract platform and payment fees.
  6. Subtract your time if you track it.

Tips for stronger estimates

  • Price-check the top value items, not only the average.
  • Use sold listings, not asking prices.
  • Allow for slow movers; not every unit sells at full value.
  • Include return rates on categories with higher buyer remorse.
  • For unmanifested loads, use conservative recovery assumptions.
